Experimental behaviour of non-seismical RWS connections with perforated beams under cyclic actions

چکیده

The use of perforated (in particular cellular and castellated) beams has become widespread as their manufacturing processes keep minimising wasted material cost-effective by reducing self-weight steel structures, while allowing for larger clear spans. Although behaviour to time-invariant vertical loads been extensively investigated validated in laboratory setups, response reversible actions not explored the same extent. This paper presents results cyclic load tests beam-column reduced web section (RWS) connections, considering setups representative what is observed low-rise buildings UK; a region with sparse seismicity. Results show that RWS connections on these frames can achieve stable hysteresis loops without significant strength degradation, due simultaneous occurrence yielding critical cross-section development Vierendeel mechanism edges perforations (web openings). Also, inelastic action mostly within beam, thus being successful protecting connection. Performance particularly exceeds benchmarking RBS connection styled according underlying assumptions, hinting could be more suitable solution structural retrofitting regions where seismicity sparse.

Behaviour of Reinforced Fibrous Concrete Beams under Reversed Cyclic Loading

When earthquakes occur, energy released by the earthquake gets induced into the structure as ground motion and this energy has to be dissipated for safety reasons. To release seismic energy, the structure should damage in such a way that on one hand, collapse of structure should not occur and on the other hand, after the earthquake, damage should be economically feasible to repair. To avoid the...

Experimental Evaluation of Performance Criteria for Reinforced Concrete Beams under Cyclic Loading

To assess the performance criteria of the reinforced-concrete, five-storey residential buildings common in Iran, an experimental study in the structural laboratory of the University of Tehran has been conducted. The test program includes cyclic and monotonic load tests of six beams that represent three-to-five storey buildings with rigid frame structures. Using definitions given in FEMA-356 a...

Numerical and Experimental Study on Ratcheting Behavior of Plates with Circular Cutouts under Cyclic Axial Loading

In this paper, accumulation of plastic deformation of AISI 1045 steel plates with circular cutouts under cyclic axial loading is studied. Loading was applied under force-control conditions. Experimental tests were performed using a Zwick/Roell servo hydraulic machine. Under force-control loading with nonzero mean force, plastic strain was accumulated in continuous cycles called ratcheting. Nume...

The Effect of the Slot Length on Beam Vertical Shear in I-Beams with Moment Connections

This paper evaluates the effect of slot existence with limited length between flanges and web junction of I-shaped beams at the region of moment connections on vertical force and shear stress distribution in beam flanges and web at connection section in comparison with classical theory of stress distribution. The main purpose of this research is to evaluate the efficiency of the slot in connect...
